Jeremiah Gottwald

Jeremiah Gottwald was a high ranking soldier in the Britannian military. After the death of Clovis, he temporarily ruled Area 11. He was to proceed over the trial of Suzaku Kururugi, but this was interrupted by Zero. In this confrontation, Zero used the Geass to force Jeremiah to assist in the escape of Suzaku. In the speech during which this happened, Zero planted the rumor that Jeremiah was involved in something called "Orange".

Although Orange was a fabrication by Zero, it combined with his forced assistance of the terrorist was enough to strip him of rank. He narrowly escaped execution by the royal guard thanks to, of all people, Suzaku in the Lancelot and Euphemia. Afterwards, he was allowed to remain in the military as a lowly Knightmare pilot.

The scorn he felt by being called Orange and the shame of being demoted festered into a deep hatred of Zero. When Jeremiah next encountered Zero in the Narita Mountains, he fought a suicidal battle against Kallen in the Guren Mk. II. He was unable to accomplish his goal of regaining his honor and defeating Zero, but was terribly injured in the process.
