Jealous was a shinigami who fell in love with a human girl named Misa. He wanted nothing more to watch her live her daily life. Then the day of her death came. Jealous and Rem watched on as a crazed man claiming to love her came at her with a knife. Without thinking, Jealous killed the man, thus saving the girl. This is something that shinigami cannot ever do - they are only meant to shorten and take human life. By saving her, he ended his own life. His body turned to dust leaving only his Death Note behind. As a result, the girl's life was extended far beyond its natural length.
