BackgroundAsuma is a jonin and chain smoker. From Kakashi's perspective, he seems to have feelings for Kurenai. His last name is Sarutobi, which may indicate relation to the Third Hokage, but his has neither been confirmed or denied.
Asuma is an extremely aggressive fighter. He has not been seen using jutsu, but his fighting style is hands on using trench knives. He has been seen using chakra to increase the size of his blades.
Asuma is the sensei of squad ten. Up until the attack on the village, we only see him as a side line observer. As the attack unfolds, Asuma arrives just in time to save his student, Shikamaru, from nine sound ninja. After Orochimaru's attack subsided, he and Kurenai confront Itachi and Kisame. Kakashi soon arrives and leaves Kurenai and Asuma with their eyes closed. Kakashi is soon defeated, but Guy arrives just in time. Guy and Asuma are prepared to hold off Itachi and Kisame until the ANBU arrives, but Itachi orders a retreat.
