BackgroundLittle is known about Kakashi's past. He was a student of the Fourth Hokage and had become a chunin by the age of six. He has lost several people close to him over the course of his life, including a close friend Obito. In addition, he gained the Sharingan despite not being a member of the Uchiha clan. His hobbies include odd sayings, and, his favorite, reading Jiraiya's "Makeout Paradise".
He is very skilled and intelligent fighter. Using the Sharingan eye, he can predict and copy enemy moves. He can also toy with the mind of his opponent. He posses many jutsu that he has copied from other ninja. He is so profuse in his copying that he is known as the man who copied over a thousand jutsu, Kakashi - the Copy Ninja. In addition, he is known to summon dogs to help him in tracking.
Kakashi became the leader of squad seven after they became the first squad to pass his test. When they became escorts to the Land of Waves, he fought Zabuza Momochi. Initially, Zabuza trapped Kakashi in the Water Prison jutsu, but Naruto and Sasuke managed to release him. In their first battle Zabuza underestimated Kakashi. Kakashi played tricks on Zabuza's mind and then hit him with his own jutsu. Haku, disguised as a tracker ninja, interfered.
The second battle between Kakashi and Zabuza was tougher on Kakashi due to the Hidden Mist jutsu decreasing the Sharingan's effectiveness. To counter this, Kakashi allowed Zabuza to cut him so that his Ninja Hounds could track Zabuza down. Once his dogs had immobilized Zabuza, Kakashi used his jutsu, Lightning Blade, to finish Zabuza. Before he hit, Haku jumped in the way, taking the brunt of Kakashi's attack. The fight concluded when Zabuza's employer fired him for failing. Zabuza then died after killing Gato, and Kakashi made a point of being respectful to Zabuza and Haku.
During the chunin exams, Kakashi uses the Curse Sealing jutsu to contain Orochimaru's curse. After Kakashi preformed this jutsu, Orochimaru appeared. Kakashi prepared his Lightning Blade and threatened that if Orochimaru continued to approach Sasuke, one of them would die. In addition, Kakashi scared off Kabuto from Sasuke's injured body. During the attack on the village,Kakashi ordered Naruto, Sakura, and Shikamaru to stop Sasuke. He helped to fight off the enemy in the arena.
After the attack, Itachi and Kisame happened to be near Kakashi. Kakashi suspected something about these shady figure, so he asked Kurenai and Asuma to follow them. When Kakashi arrived to the unfolding battle, he faced Itachi and was knocked out by the Tsukuyomi.
