69: Village in Distress, A New A-Ranked Mission!
Kakashi's orders for Sakura are to release the genjutsu, follow Sasuke, and stop him from fighting with Gaara.
Kakashi wants Shikamaru and Naruto to be awakened. Sakura suggests waking up Ino and Choji also, but Kakashi reminds her that with more than the four ninja needed for a squad, things are slowed down. Instead of Kakashi coming with the three, he summons Pakkun, one of his ninja hounds. Pakkun will use his sense of smell to lead the genin to Sasuke.
Sakura crawls to Naruto to release the genjutsu. As soon as Naruto is awakened, Sakura knocks him down just in time to avoid a kunai knife. She crawls to Shikamaru who had already released genjutsu; however, in his desire to stay uninvolved, he pretended to be asleep. Pakkun bites Shikamaru twice to wake him up. Naruto now beings to look around him and realize what is happening. With Naruto lost in thought, a sound ninja nearly attacks him from behind, but Guy sensei appears in a blur and slams the enemy into the wall. The sound ninja comments on Guy's speed, but Guy answers that he is also powerful. With that, Guy pushed the ninja through the wall.
Kakashi now explains the mission. Track down Sasuke and stop him. Then find a safe location to hide and wait for further orders. Naruto and Sakura quickly leave, but Pakkun has to try to bribe Shikamaru and eventually just drag him out.
Back on to the roof, Orochimaru and Sarutobi face off. After the ANBU comment that taking out one of the four sound ninja would allow them to help, the four sound ninja create a second barrier on the inside.
Sarutobi attacks Orochimaru with Tile Shuriken, but Orochimaru's Striking Shadow Snake bites Sarubobi's neck. Unfortunately for Orochimaru, Sarubobi had used the subsitution jutsu. He then catches Orochimaru in a mud river and attacks with Mud and Fire bombs. Orochimaru puts on an act as if he had lost, but Sarutobi knows his student better than that.
Back at the academy, the students are left alone as the teachers have a meeting. Konohamaru reflects on the odd signs they had noticed outside. He then notices the rainbow outside.
Back in the arena, the ninja posing as an ANBU is seen. He discusses Naruto with the other sound ninja. He pulls out a deck of cards that has information on Naruto.
Meanwhile, the academy teachers have decided to do an evacuation "drill".
Orochimaru asks Sarutobi, "If he forsee this, dying this way?"
Both Sarutobi and Orochimaru remove their robes and the air begins to become heavy with chakra. The roof is cracking from the sheer pressure of the chakra. They launch at each other; Sarutobi throws a single shuriken, but uses the Shurinken Shadow Clone jutsu to multiply it. In response, Orochimaru performs the Summoning Jutsu: Reanimation to shield himself from the shuriken. Apparently realizing what Orochimaru was summoning, he put forth great effort to stop the third.
Sarutobi and one of the ANBU are horrified at what Orochimaru has done. He has summoned two people in caskets.
Konohamaru and his friends are evacuating, and Konohamaru seems to be the only one realizing that something signifcant is happening. He has a flashback to a day in the countryside where his grandfather explained that rainbow's are symbols of snakes and fortell evil.
The two people that Orochimaru summoned wander from their caskets; they seem to recognize and even know Sarutobi's name. They comment on his age. He talks of Orchimaru's summoning as being a vile trick. One ANBU does not know who the people are until..
Sarutobi asks the First Lord Hokage and Second Lord Hokage to prepare themselves.
They are the greatest shinobi to ever come from the village. They built the hidden leaf village. They see Orochimaru's forbidden Reanimation technique and call Orochimaru insolent for using it. The First Hokage asks Sarutobi if it was he that they had to battle. Orochimaru holds kunai with spells attacked in each of his hands.
Back to the genin, Sakura has explained the situation to Naruto. Shikamaru complains about being dragged into the mess. The four continue to run though the forest with Pakkun leading.
Lastly, sound ninja holding Naruto's profile card set off in pursuit vowing to get the genin.
